Saving dictionary

The dictionary files are a crucial part of the ArchEthno method and as such, it is necessary to take a particular attention to saving of dictionary files.

File name

The file name of dictionary cannot be chosen, only the folder where it will be saved. Indeed, the name of the dictionary file will be chosen using the dictionary name and status, defined in the Dictionary metadata.

Additionally, for draft dictionaries, the file name will include the date and time of save as the history of modifications is not saved for draft dictionaries.

Saving dictionaries, especially draft ones, can use a lot of files, it is recommended to create a dedicated folder on the system for each dictionary.

Save behaviour

When the dictionary is saved, a state of the dictionary is fixed and represents a version of this dictionary. Each save of the dictionary will then be considered as a mark in time of the state of the dictionary.

For non-draft dictionary, saving the dictionary will produce a new version of the dictionary. Inside the ArchEditor, if you want to have the new version of the dictionary, an update to this dictionary must be performed.

Thus, while it is a good practice to save regularly your work, please take care to not aggressively save your file to avoid saving all the history of useless modifications.
